Ethel and Ernest-Raymond Briggs
Apologies if done before but the Raymond Briggs film about his Mum and Dad was on the BBC last night - all from them meeting, life through the war and to their deaths..he animated it all and ,being from a similar era,it provoked so many lovely memories of my childhood ,parents and grandparents...like my nan turning up to see baby with two bottles of stout for Dad...my family (Mum's side are from Bromley in Kent) so there was so much of what I remember Mum talking about...Mrs A and I spent a lot of the programme in misty eyed nostalgia - I know there are a lot of blokes on here of a similar age who'll love it...(dons ARP helmet)

Id go as far as saying it was one of the best programmes I've ever seen on TV because it was very 'real' in its portrayal of family life, it went through decades of British history without trying to be 'educational', it was well acted - the people doing the voiceovers... it was well scripted... my 9 year old thought it was great as did my parents who are similar age to the author. Super viewing.

I thought it was very evocative - maybe because it was a very ordinary story. Not great but ok.

Amongst the dross that has been on over Christmas this was great. Reminded me of my grandparents and the stories they used to tell me about living through those times.
